"F*** me gently with a chainsaw."
Sorry, couldn’t resist. Back in 2009, FOX briefly had plans to adapt the beloved 1989 dark teen comedy Heathers for TV. Now, according to EW.com, that movie, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as sociopaths who had a way of dealing with their school’s popular clique that definitely wouldn’t fly as comedy in today’s post-Columbine world, is being brought to series by Bravo.
The show will take place in the same universe as the world Veronica Sawyer (Ryder) and J.D. Dean (Slater) inhabited back in the ’80s, but present day. A now-grown Veronica will move back to Sherwood, Ohio with her teenage daughter – who now must deal with the mean girl daughters of the surviving Heathers, the "Ashleys."
The show is being executive produced by Mark Rizzo (The Man Date, Zip) and Jenny Bicks (The Big C, Men In Trees) – the same team who developed the Heathers TV series for FOX back in ’09.
